oh chocolate how I love you!

Saturday, November 7th, 2009

Chocolate is a weakness for many of us, myself included. Not all chocolate is bad, it’s not great either. Below are some rules to keep in mind when eating chocolate. Remember, eat in moderation!

Eating chocolate used to be cause for plaguing us all with guilt. Closet chocolate eaters, you can all come out now!   Recent scientific research tells us that chocolate is rich in anti-oxidants called flavonols.

These anti-oxidants protect our arteries and prostate glands, reduce inflammation and increase sensations of well-being. The same flavonols are found in green tea and in certain types of berries.

The Rules of Chocolate

Of course, you should follow some rules when choosing the right chocolate for you. Here are rules to follow to make it ever more guilt free:

Make that protein shake taste, well drinkable!

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

We’ve all got our own quirky taste and texture preferences, even for simple protein shakes. Here are a few techniques you may find useful in preparing your next protein shake.

PROBLEM:

If your protein shake is:

Too Thin:

Try adding a few ice cubes, frozen fruit, or a tablespoon of sugar-free instant pudding mix to thicken it.

Too Thick:

Some protein mixes have guar gum or other artificial thickeners in them. Instead of throwing them out, you can make shakes using only half the packet, mixing in a regular whey protein to cover the protein gap.

Many People Unaware of Alcohol Calories

Red wine in an off license

The campaign is focusing on the calorie content of alcohol

Many people are unaware of the calorie content of alcohol, a survey shows.

Four in 10 did not know a glass of wine has the same calories (120) as a slice of cake, or that a pint of lager and a small sausage roll have 170 each.

Great results from boot camp! Losing inches and pounds!

Friday, October 9th, 2009

I just have to say that this week has been a great week for many campers with Epic Boot Camp.  It has also been a great month and I can’t believe another boot camp session has come to an end. Yes I know today is/was test day and most campers hate running the mile. But nothing makes the trainers happier than to see everyone out there giving it their best! Nothing makes me happier than seeing campers shed off an inch here or 2:00 minutes off of their mile time. What an accomplishment!!!  Today my campers really gave it their best effort when running the mile, during push ups, the plank, burpees, and sit ups. All of my campers improved on their times and that made me feel great because I am able to help them reach their fitness goals. Even with the measurements we saw a lot of campers lose inches! Such great results! This morning really made me excited for the day after seeing the results from all the hard work my campers put in this past month!

To all of our campers in Pittsburgh and Philly…the trainers are dedicated to you! They aren’t your typical gym trainer where they barely pay attention to you or don’t even know that much about you. They are dedicated staff that will respond to emails and focus on the campers at boot camp, and be excited when you see results.  We want to see every single person that comes to our camps succeed.  It is this day that reminds us why we do what we do.  So cheers to all of you for all your hard work and dedication to better health, your families, to us, and most importantly, yourself!
